Las Vegas Slots - A Guide to Canyoneering in Southern Nevada

 Author Rick Ianniello
Language: English

While the Western United States offers a great deal of incredible canyoneering opportunities, it would be difficult to find a single area with the same diversity of technical canyons as those found in Southern Nevada. In the Black Canyon below Hoover Dam, dry desert canyons dive down towards hot spring oases and the Lower Colorado River. On the other side of Las Vegas the famous sandstone bluffs of Red Rock Canyon rise out of the valley with tight and twisting water filled canyons carved in between that rival the slot canyons of Utah in excitement and beauty. Towering behind those bluffs, high on Mount Charleston, cold alpine canyons can be found where powerful water currents fall through polished limestone in the spring.

With descriptions of more than 40 technical canyons and over a dozen non-technical canyons from the outskirts of Las Vegas, the Black Canyon, Red Rocks, Mount Charleston, the Virgin River Gorge, and into Central Nevada, this book offers opportunity for adventure and beauty for almost any skill level of canyoneer at any time of the year. Route descriptions include over a hundred color pictures, detailed access and approach directions, technical canyon beta, rappel lengths, topographic maps and other useful information.

During his time in Las Vegas, Rick Ianniello spent his free time scanning topo maps and satellite images before taking to the Mohave desert and exploring canyons with who ever would go along. Rick and his friends found dozens of exciting and scenic technical canyons, most of which were previously undescended. This book is a collection of the best of those canyons.
